​​Since the 19th century, Haiti has faced chronic socio-political instability, characterized by armed clashes, provisional governments and deep societal tensions. These instabilities have recently taken a turn towards gangsterization, exacerbating violence and precariousness. They are often attributed to the country's institutional and economic deficiencies.
